Malaga Lights 2019 – Christmas Lights go on in Malaga

The Malaga Lights are a sight to behold

In 2019, Malaga Christmas lights were switched on on Friday 29 November at 6.30 pm. The event took place with a huge street party in Calle Larios. Some 10,000 light beams were handed out to spectators who watched the first light and sound show followed afterwards by a concert in Plaza de la Constitución. Antonio Banderas, who is from Malaga, turned on the lights.

Not just the Lights in Malaga

There is more to see and do in Malaga and along the Costa del Sol, it’s not just the lights. I found a fantastic website called Spanish Sabores which lists 50 things to do in Malaga around Christmas and New Year time. Take a few minutes and see what there is to do and see in and around Malaga if you are headed that way to see the lights.

If you find something that’s not listed, then please, let us know and we will spread the good word.

Further on than Malaga

Malaga is smack bang in the centre of everything great along the Costa del Sol. Travel east and you are in Torrox, Velez-Malaga and Nerja, go west and its Fuengirola, Marbella, Torremolinos and many more great places for a vacation. There is a train from Malaga to Fuengirola that takes in all the smaller towns as well as the major resorts along the way. If you don’t fancy the train, there is a bus station opposite with buses to all parts of the region.

One place that is definitely a “must-see” is Nerja. Nerja is a resort town along southern Spain’s Costa del Sol. Its seafront promenade, Balcón de Europa, tops a promontory with views of the Mediterranean and surrounding mountains. Below it lies sandy beaches and cliffside coves. Cueva de Nerja, a nearby cavern with unusual stalactites and stalagmites, hosts popular summertime concerts. It’s also known for its palaeolithic paintings, viewable by guided tour.

For places to stay in Nerja, try Nerja Beach Holidays. A great company with lots of fantastic self-catering villas and apartments in Nerja, most are a stone’s throw from the wonderful Burriana Beach. If you do stay, please, share your photographs with us.
